2017 La Jolla Half Marathon - Sunday, April 22, 2018
The La Jolla Half Marathon is one of America’s most picturesque and beautiful point-to-point races. Starting at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, the course follows a scenic coastal route before reaching the challenging climb to the summit of Torrey Pines State Park. After leaving the park, the course rolls atop Torrey Pines mesa, continues down through the residential district of La Jolla Shores, and finishes in Ellen Browning Scripps Park at La Jolla Cove. The La Jolla Half Marathon is race #2 in the Half Marathon Triple Crown Series.
For those interested in a shorter option, the La Jolla Shores 5K offers a mostly downhill course and features some of the most scenic views of the last 3.1 miles of the half marathon course.

La Jolla Junior Olympics - May 20, 2018
Another highlight of the La Jolla Kiwanis Club’s year is the Richard Moon Mullen Memorial La Jolla Junior Olympics! Plans are to present the 27th annual event at La Jolla High School. The exact date will is to be announced.
Richard “Moon” Mullen started the La Jolla Junior Olympics in April, 1992 while he was serving as the club’s president. There were 140 students from La Jolla Elementary, Bird Rock Elementary and Torrey Pines Elementary participating that year.
In addition, students from The Gillispie School, The Children’s School, All Hallows Academy, Evans School, San Diego French-American School, and Stella Maris Academy are invited to participate. We host between 900 and 1000 students each year at this elementary school track meet. Each participant can enter up to three track or field events. Among them are the 50 meter race, the 100 meter race, the 200 meter race, the softball throw, the broad jump and the obstacle course. The event is FREE to all participants.
Each school organizes one relay team of four boys, one relay team of four girls, one girl to run the Fastest Girl in La Jolla 400 meter race and one boy for the Fastest Boy in La Jolla 400 meter race. The excitement in the stadium is electric during each of these events!
This wildly popular event is the pride and joy of the La Jolla Kiwanis Club. The event is staffed by over 100 volunteers including members of the La Jolla Kiwanis Club, UCSD Circle K Club, La Jolla High School Key Club, University City High School Key Club, Mission Bay High School Key Club along with staff from the La Jolla YMCA. Students from OUTSIDE THE LENS serve as amateur photographers. The large contingent of US Marines from Marine Corps Air Station Miramar are a tremendous presence each year providing their own brand of enthusiasm and support for our elementary school athletes.
Details for the 2017 event will be provided to the schools in early April, 2017 when we send out invitations to each school to participate in next year’s event.
