Half Marathon & La Jolla Shores 5k

The La Jolla Half Marathon takes place in May and is one of America’s most picturesque and beautiful point-to-point races. Starting at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, the course follows a scenic coastal route before reaching the challenging climb to the summit of Torrey Pines State Park. After leaving the park, the course rolls atop Torrey Pines mesa, continues down through the residential district of La Jolla Shores, and finishes in Ellen Browning Scripps Park at La Jolla Cove. The La Jolla Shores 5K offers a mostly downhill course and features some of the most scenic views of the last 3.1 miles of the half marathon course.

Pancake Breakfast

Since 1963 the Kiwanis Club of La Jolla has organized as summer morning breakfast featuring pancakes with various toppings, sausages, and beverages. Held at the La Jolla Recreation Center the event is an opportunity for friends and family to gather for pancakes and fun. Music, pony rides, bounce house and face painting help to create a festive atmosphere. Items that are donated by local businesses, hotels and restaurants are raffled and auctioned off, raising monies that the club’s foundation grants to non-profit organizations.

Cove Swim

For over 100 years the La Jolla Cove Swim has been one the world’s most renowned open water swims, attracting experienced swimmers from across the country as well as internationally. The one and three-mile courses of the Swim start and finish at the picturesque La Jolla Cove. In 2020 the Kiwanis Club of La Jolla took over the leadership of the Swim and the event was renamed. Due to COVID 19, the 2020 La Jolla Kiwanis Cove Swim was a virtual event with the proceeds directed to organizations that supported unemployed workers during the pandemic.

Kiwanis clubs, located in 80 nations, help their communities in countless ways. Each community’s needs are different—so each Kiwanis club is different. By working together, members achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone. When you give a child the chance to learn, experience, dream, grow, succeed, and thrive, great things happen.
